Development of Rail Transit and Analysis of Cable Demand
As an important national infrastructure, railway plays an important strategic role in Chinese transportation system. It is stated in The 13th Five-year Plan for Railway Development (Exposure Draft) issued by State Railway Administration that from 2016 to 2020, the investment of railway fixed assets will reach 3.5 trillion-3.8 trillion yuan, of which 3 trillion yuan will be invested in capital construction and 30,000 km will be built for the new lines. By 2020, the operation mileage of the national railway will reach 150,000km, including 30,000 km high-speed railways.
By the end of 2015, the operation mileage of the national railways exceeded 120,000 km, ranking the second in the world, of which high-speed railways covered 19,000 km and accounted for more than 60% of the total mileage of high-speed railways in the world. In 2016, 3,281 km of new national railways were put into operation, including 1,903 km of high-speed railways. At the same time, China is preparing to build a “Pan-Asian Railway Network” with a total length of about 15,000 km. With the increase of railway investment, the demands for railway vehicle cables and railway signal cables will be increased.
Rail transit brings new opportunities for cables
China’s railway infrastructure investment remains at a high level of more than 700 billion yuan, and the construction of electrified railway is gradually entering a peak. As one of the main equipments for electrified railway, the demand for traction electrical equipments will increase. The cables for rail transit are significantly affected by upstream equipments. Therefore, it is self-evident that the demand of cables will be increased by traction electrical equipments.
The influence of Chinese rail transit construction on the cable industry is that it not only drives the increase of cable demands but also propose higher requirements for the technology of cable enterprises. At present, the construction of metro tunnel, metro station, equipment installation, fire control, etc. has a strong demand for power cables. Due to the constraints of terrain and economic factors, tunnels are used for rail transit to avoid complex terrains, so there is a huge demand for lighting wires and cables for tunnels and metro stations. This also plays a role in promoting the development of cable technology.
